Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, legal advocate Phillip Amos has dedicated his career to the pursuit of justice. His journey into law began with hands-on work helping survivors of intimate partner violence at a community non-profit. It was through this early experience that he discovered the profound impact legal advocacy can have on individual lives and entire communities.

Determined to make a difference, Phillip attended the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law, graduating in 2006. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable William Robbins on the Denver District Court, where he gained invaluable insight into the judicial process and confirmed his calling to become a lawyer.

Building a Career in Public Service

In 2007, Phillip Amos joined the District Attorney’s Office as a Deputy District Attorney. Early in his career, he made it his mission to protect vulnerable populations, with a particular focus on serving children — both those who were survivors of violence and those facing criminal charges.

Throughout his years of service, Phillip took on increasingly complex cases and leadership roles. His dedication and skill led him to head the Office’s Human Trafficking Unit, where he worked tirelessly to combat exploitation and protect at-risk individuals. His work extended beyond the courtroom when Governor John Hickenlooper appointed him to the Colorado Human Trafficking Council. As a member of the council, Phillip Amos’ professional background played a key role in shaping policies to address human trafficking across the state, ensuring that survivors received the support and justice they deserved.

Leadership on the Bench

Phillip’s commitment to justice eventually led him to serve as a Magistrate Judge in Denver. In this role, he brought a forward-thinking approach to the bench, focusing on alternative courts designed to address the root causes of criminal behavior.

Instead of relying solely on incarceration, Phillip championed programs that provided treatment and support for individuals struggling with addiction, mental health issues, and poverty. His efforts contributed to reducing recidivism and helped build stronger, healthier communities.
